Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
