The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season presents a large cast of characters residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
